Moments of Sustenance

Message of the Day from Wendy Barker

Yesterday, we walked the Willingdon Beach trail in brilliant sunshine, with the wind dancing in the trees and lifting the ocean into lively white-caps. Along the way, we saw several people trying to capture the moment with their cameras. It reminded me of a time last week when the low afternoon sun briefly lit the new snow on Mt. Mahoney with a glorious golden glow. When I called Allan to come and see it at our kitchen window, he raced for his camera, found it wouldn’t work, grabbed another camera that also decided to malfunction … and by then, the glow had gone. I know he wanted to save that moment for me and for others, but I’m not sure whether he even saw it.

This made me realize the importance of truly savouring each touch of beauty, each flash of insight, each gesture of love, when it happens, and recognizing these as special gifts from God that will help to see us through the dark times. We can do our best to capture such thoughts and experiences in words and pictures, but recorded memories only have meaning if we have been really present during these remarkable moments.

Words of Inspiration

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

~Rom. 15:13 (NIV)

Prayer

“God who touches earth with beauty,
Make my heart anew;
With your Spirit, recreate me … “

Just as we used to sing it in this hymn, our need continues.

We pray that we may be open to really seeing the beauty around us,

And may be nourished, renewed, and strengthened to share our hope with others.

Amen
