Thoughts for the Day, from Trudy Simpson
Conscience — An inner feeling or voice viewed as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one’s behaviour.
Consequence — A result or effect of an action or condition.
What is the expectation of each one of us regarding this pandemic, and how do we cope? This is much easier for some than others.
We live on the most beautiful planet — we messed it up!
We are taught that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Not so — we messed it up!
We have great health leaders giving suggestions (not orders). Do we obey? No, we mess them up, too!
Is it too much to ask us to wash our hands, some cases wear masks, distance 2m, and the big one — stay home!! We can still socialize at a distance, get fresh air and exercise at a distance. What is so hard about that? If we let our conscience and common sense guide us, we will all come through these difficult times.
The “consequence” if we do not follow our “conscience” is disaster. With a second wave coming and probably stronger, we must all do our part to keep safe. If each one of us conscientiously follows the rules laid out for us, we will be fine. No doubt most will come through alright, as with other pandemics. We are heading to a “new normal”, and how we manage it is up to each one of us. With God’s help, we can do it!! God gave us all a conscience; some prick more easily than others!! If we do as our health leaders recommend, using our conscience, then the consequences will be less severe. It is in our hands.
Prayer:
Almighty God, we know that everything is in Your sovereign control. We ask that You keep this new coronavirus from continuing to spread. Give government officials the ability to safely handle people arriving from other countries and parts of ours. Help people decide to stay home instead of travelling or going out needlessly. Holy Spirit, remind people to wash their hands properly. And while it may be heartbreaking, comfort families as they decide to keep their distance from elderly or other high-risk family members. Amen.
Scripture - Isaiah 40:31:
But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed.
They will rise on wings like eagles;
They will run and not get weary;
The will walk and not grow weak.
