Message of the Day from Rev. Mary White
Good Evening and Blessings ,
I am often asked if I am a cat person or a dog person but am never given the option of neither. Being raised with a kennel of beagles, one would think that I would prefer dogs, but my response is more practical. Cats are independent, they can be left alone for a couple of days, and they don’t require walks several times a day or a lot of activity to keep them entertained. So, for me, the choice comes down to one’s lifestyle, how active you wish to be and how much time there is to attend to that special creation. All pets need love, compassion and lots of nurturing. With the exception of the personality of some cats, pets are usually wonderful loyal companions.
Keep safe, Keep connected.
Blessings and the strength of Love be with you.

Poem Excerpt from “Moments from Our Nights and Days” by Ruth Burgess
Blackstone’s Journey
Loud, persistent protests
as we set off from St Ives
on the long journey to the Western Isles;
the vocal indignation
turning into intermittent pleas,
plaintive, compelling.
Out of his basket at every stop,
his elongated body sees all
through the windows.
Is he memorising his route home?
Every return to his basket
an unequal struggle.
Occasionally a paw stretches out,
scratches my arm – a reminder.
An overnight stop – no respite or rest
for driver or passenger.
The last lap – the ferry;
the movements and whimsies of the sea.
Snoring gently,
curled neatly into a ball,
a paw holding down an unruly tail;
comfortable on an uneven lap.
A picture of contentment,
settling into his new home.

Prayer
Life Creator
We are grateful to be born with the gift of empathy, compassion for all living things. Because most of us have or had a pet of one sort or another, may compassion linger throughout our days. Help us to be accessible to it, give it room to grow, apply it to new areas. May we strive to promote human and animal life. Bless us and bless the creatures that bring us pleasure and joy. We pray this in the name of the One who demonstrated compassion for all.
Amen
