Message of Love from Rev. Mary White
Greetings and Blessings
This week is Mental Health Week and the most prominent Mental Health issue today is depression. In her book “The Drama Of The Gifted Child” Alice Miller states “grandiosity is the defence against depression, and depression is the defense against the deep pain over the loss of the self that results from denial.” How often do you deny or suppress feelings? These unexpressed feelings tend to build one on the other until through a lifetime we can have created a wall of feelings like the size of the Tower of Babel. And often denial of feelings can manifest into denial of the self.
I have included below a finger Labyrinth that can help with discovering the true self through a spiritual journey while experiencing ones Higher Power.
Before entering, say a prayer asking for help to remain focussed; choose a question you wish to have answered, repeat the question throughout your spiritual journey; if you find that your mind is straying, continue asking the question; when you reach the centre, remain there as long as you wish; as you move toward the exit, continue asking the question; remember to move slowly through the Labyrinth and if you have not found an answer, then repeat the journey again.
Reading “Celebrating the labyrinth: a journey of spirit.”
The labyrinth is a symbol of our journey through life. The centre of the labyrinth may represent enlightenment, self-realization, perfection, or salvation. In medieval France, the centre was called “heaven,” and the path itself was known as “the way to Jerusalem,” the goal of the pilgrim, but also as the way to “the heavenly city,” the goal of all Christians.
As you walk the labyrinth, there will be times when you find yourself tantalizingly close to the goal, but then, suddenly, you find yourself moving away from the centre. Likewise, far into the path, you will find yourself on the outer circle, far from the centre. All of this could be puzzling or even discouraging if you did not know that the entire path is necessary, that the entire path leads to the centre – even those parts that seem to lead away from it, even those parts that seem far from it. You can trust the path to take you to the centre eventually, no matter where you happen to be at the moment.

Prayer
Loving Spirit
Be with all who enter the Labyrinth, and may they experience answers according to your will. We pray this in the name of the One who journeys with us.
Amen
