Spiritual Growth

Remaining Faithful with Reverend Mary White

Good Afternoon and Blessings

How do we get beyond the physical and into our humanness? Jack Kornfield (“A Path With Heart”) states

“To love fully and live well requires us to recognize finally that we do not possess or own anything—our homes, our cars, our loved ones, not even our own body.”

It is a temporary mind-set to define oneself by stuff we cling to. Belongings become passe when the hottest thing is one step above our possessions. We are limited by our attachments which restricts our spiritual growth. When we are able to let go of our illusions of ownership, we experience the freedom to be open to spiritual maturity.

Reading • Matthew 6:25-29 (MSG)

If you decide for God, living a life with a Higher Power, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more than birds.

Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

Prayer

Empowering Spirit

You dwell in our every breath delivering within budding power and courage to be our authentic self.

May we know the potential in ourselves and see it in all whom we meet. Help us look beyond those guarded behaviours, the obvious, and have faith in the abilities hidden below the surface. May we discover the vitality within to be all You intended for us. We pray in the name of Love.

Amen
