Message from Our Minister • Light of God Ministry • Reverend Mary White
It was a garden party like I had never experienced before. As I approached the venue, there was a symphony of music flowing through the myriad of blossoms giving off a variety of welcoming scents. The tables were set with the finest linen, recently polished silver, and shiny crystal glassware. It was the perfect setting for a warm Sunday afternoon garden event. I was new to the community, and this was the best way to get acquainted. I looked around for the lady who invited me and not finding her, I made some inquiries only to discover that I was at the wrong house. I looked at the hostess, smiled, and said “Oops!! Never mind”. On a personal note, I was secretly hoping they would ask me to stay. But there I was banished from the perfect garden party.
With Love,
Rev. Mary

Reading Excerpt - From “Christ of the Celts” by J. Philip Newell
What is it we have forgotten about ourselves and one another? In the Celtic tradition, the Garden of Eden is not a place in space and time from which we are separated. It is the deepest dimension of our being from which we live in a type of exile. It is our place of origin or genesis in God. Eden is home, but we live far removed from it. And yet, in the Genesis account, the Garden is not destroyed. Rather Adam and Eve become fugitives from the place of their deepest identity. It is a picture of humanity living in exile.
At the beginning of the Hebrew scriptures, the Book of Genesis describes humanity as made in the ‘image’ and ‘likeness’ of God (Genesis 1:26). This is a fundamental truth in our biblical inheritance. Everything else that is said about us in the scriptures needs to be read in the light of this starting point. The image of God is at the core of our being. And like the Garden it has not been destroyed. It may have become covered over or lost sight of, but it is at the beginning of who we are.
Nativity Scenes
Many of you will remember Heather Farrell-Sketchly who attended our church many years ago. Every year Heather found great joy in displaying nativity sets from many different cultures, in a store window for the public to enjoy.
Since her passing away last year, Ray has decided to share these nativity sets with others. If you are interested in having one of the many creche sets, please go to Ray's house this Sunday:

Poem excerpt by Joyce Rupp
“The Circle Of Life: The Heart's Journey Through The Seasons”
If you look at a sunset, you might see only the disappearance of daylight.
If you look beneath, you may see darkness opening the splendour of stars.
If you look at illness and disease, you might see only physical diminishment.
If you look beneath, you may see it as a teacher bringing you vital wisdom.
If you look at a broken relationship, you might see only a harsh ending.
If you look beneath, you may see the courageous seeds of new growth.
If you look at lost dreams, you might see only disappointment and doubt.
If you look beneath, you may see the stuff that new dreams contain.
If you look at the planet’s pain and creatures’ woe, you might see only despair.
If you look beneath, you may see hope woven in the compassionate care of many.
If you look at yourself, you might see only tarnished unfinishedness.
If you look beneath, you may see your basic goodness shining there.
If you look for the divine being, you might see mostly unresolved questions.
If you look beneath, you may be astounded at the availability of divine love.

PRAYER
Giving Creator
Too often, we focus on the surface of life and forget to see beyond.
May we look beneath the obvious to find our true selves filled with divine love. May we have the strength to get away from the ego that blocks us from genuine self-acceptance.
May we see all situations through the lens of divine recognition. We pray this in the name of the Triune One.
Amen
