The More You Give

Message of the Day from Wendy Barker

The other day, my husband Allan was down at the church to do his regular walk-through, and stopped to again admire the beautifully-kept Memorial Garden.  That led us to check into who has been quietly keeping this looking so lovely.  Many people have contributed time, effort, and artistry over the years, and each person’s touch has made a difference.  To name them would be to risk missing someone.  What was interesting to us is that the garden has continued to be maintained even during this shut-down period when there was no one there to see it.  Thank-you, Del and Ian, for this gift.  It is a reminder that we need to keep giving our best even when it seems that no one will notice or care.

It brings to mind a favourite poem that Doris Dixon has kindly saved and shared:

“The more you give, the more you get.

The more you laugh, the less you fret.

The more you do unselfishly, the more you live abundantly.

The more of everything you share, the more you’ll always have to spare.

The more you love, the more you’ll find that life is good and friends are kind.

For only what we give away enriches us from day to day.”
