Equally Precious

Daily Message and Prayer from Rev. Mary White

Good Afternoon and Blessings

Summer! This is the season that little critters and crawlers emerge from their earthly nests to reproduce and live their lives according to their purpose. We often observe them as annoying pests to be eradicated but maybe they all have a reason for being. It’s easy for us to recognize some insects that benefit people. The bee is an obvious contributor to humankind-as is the earthworm who improve air and water flow along with nutrients for gardens.  Yes, there may even be a rationale for what we consider pesky mosquitoes. And as someone who is allergic to mosquito bites, I have faith that they have a purpose. We just haven’t determined what that is yet.  And maybe their rationale for existing has nothing to do with us. But you may correctly be aware, some carry diseases and so do we.

Keep safe, Keep connected.

Blessings and the strength of Love be with you.

Insects

Excerpt from “Beyond Words” by Frederick Buechner

The fly in the soup. The ant at the picnic.

The silverfish in the shirt drawer. The mosquito at three o’clock in the morning. Pests is what we have come to call them, as if that were their proper name, and it is not hard to see why. Even the most tender hearted among us exterminates them without a qualm, and my guess is that St. Francis himself would understand and forgive.  It takes a microscope to see them in all their indescribable intricacy, but even the naked eye can see enough to know that no less than ourselves they are part of the great web of life and that even the tiniest and most tiresome among them, as also among us, is precious beyond telling.

Prayer Of The Day

Creating Creator

You have enhanced our life with a vast array of living species. All are equally precious.

Bestow upon us vision and wisdom to appreciate the beauty in the largest and the smallest of all your creation.  Grant us a curious mindset to research those creatures that we fear. And help us begin to better understand the natural world around our immediate environment.

This we pray.

Amen.
