Daily Devotional Message from Rev. Mary White
FAITH MAKES WELL
She came up behind him and touched the
fringe of his clothes, and immediately her
hemorrhage stopped. – Luke 8:44
In the gospel story, an ill woman goes into the crowd, finds Jesus, and touches him—a man. Both no-no’s for a sick woman. She shouldn’t be in public, and she shouldn’t be touching a man.
Deep down, this woman of faith knows who Jesus is and will go to any length to make sure she gets close to him. In fact, she puts her own life on the line to do that.
The ongoing call for disciples is to keep turning to Jesus, and through faith and the work of the Holy Spirit, expect the unforeseeable. It is a call for openness to and relationship with Christ. What others think of us does not really matter; what does matter is how we let Jesus lead us. The physical outcome is very important to us. However, an intentional encounter with Jesus is an encounter that will bring about healing of the soul—a deep inner sense of renewal and relationship with the Holy. Only God determines what that will actually be in the end.
Reflection Question
Has your faith ever made you well, either physically or spiritually? What was that experience like and how did it change your perspective?
