Something to Ponder • Light of God Ministry
Some Christians believe that we have an exclusive claim to God and all God has to offer both in our lifespan here and beyond. But God, being a free spirit, cannot be captured in our imaginings nor in our ego’s need to possess. God is referred to by many different names in many different religions. All the names for God are good, and no name is better than another. In almost all religions there is a “Golden Rule”. The words may be different, but the message is the same:
“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.
This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.”
—Matthew 7:12 (NLT)

Reading Romans 3:28-31 (MSG)
Our lives get in step with God and all others by letting God set the pace, not by proudly or anxiously trying to run the parade. And where does that leave our proud Jewish claim of having a corner on God? Also canceled. God is the God of outsider non-Jews as well as insider Jews. How could it be otherwise since there is only one God? God sets right all who welcome God’s action and enter into it, both those who follow our religious system and those who have never heard of our religion. But by shifting our focus from what we do to what God does, don’t we cancel out all our careful keeping of the rules and ways God commanded? Not at all. What happens, in fact, is that by putting that entire way of life in its proper place, we confirm it.
Prayer
Creator of All
Replacing the politicians’ empty words with cries for justice; building bridges to others, not walls between us; seeing the poor as holy families to serve, we declare your greatness. Scanning the columns for place in the low-rent areas of life, we never notice your full-page ad about your heart which has more than enough room for everyone. And so be it.
