Self-Acceptance

Message from Light of God Ministry • Reverend Mary White

Words to Consider….

Coming to terms with accepting ourselves with loving compassion is proof that aging is such a blessing. We spend too much of our younger years caught up in comparing who we are with others. We strive to be better at parenting, sports, gardening, singing, baking, fishing, making money, etc. So much time is wasted on competing with friends and neighbours that we overlook our gifts and fail to bring our creative spiritual being to the fore. We find ourselves without an authentic, fully lived life. Letting go of life learned patterns is not always easy but we can start with that first step toward accepting the self.  In all that we are gifted with and all that we do, we are good enough. Thank God for the beauty of diversity.

With Love
Rev. Mary White

Sited in “Quiet” by Susan Cain

A species in which everyone was General Patton would not succeed, any more than would a race in which everyone was Vincent van Gogh. I prefer to think that the planet needs athletes, philosophers, sex symbols, painters, scientists; it needs the warm-hearted, the hard-hearted, the cold-hearted, and the weak-hearted. It needs those who can devote their lives to studying how many droplets of water are secreted by the salivary glands of dogs under which circumstances, and it needs those who can capture the passing impression of cherry blossoms in a fourteen- syllable poem or devote twenty-five pages to the dissection of a small boy’s feelings as he lies in bed in the dark waiting for his mother to kiss him goodnight.… Indeed, the presence of outstanding strengths presupposes that energy needed in other areas has been channelled away from them.

For the People

Our congregation has donated $4,150 in support of the people of the Ukraine. Pretty amazing!

Poem: What We Are To Be

by Thom Shuman, from his book “Piano Man”

To those whose hair has risen

on the back of their hearts,

we are to broadcast (gracefully modified)

seeds of hope;

to everyone whose knees are swollen

and wobbly from standing at two jobs,

we are to be braces;

to all whose hands

are palsied by poverty,

we are to be gloves

woven from skeins of food,

warmth, shelter. to anyone

whose feet are blistered

from walking the burning

bricks of foolishness,

we are to be shoes

which will easily slip on

for the Way.

Creating Spirit

Let light enfold me that my inward eye may clearly see the path that lies ahead. Let my mind be opened up that I may recognise the signposts along the way. Grant me the wisdom that comes from understanding the true from the false. And guide my steps, so that should I falter or stumble, tripped by former beliefs that blind me still, I may go forward with courage, and with the determination which persistence brings. Let me be embraced with the love by which the whole creation is moved, the very essence with which all things are held together, dependent yet independent, whole yet individuated, in which all are my relatives.

Amen
