Here and Now

Message from Light of God Ministry

“Suppose one of you has a servant who comes in from plowing the field or tending the sheep. Would you take his coat, set the table, and say, ‘Sit down and eat’? Wouldn’t you be more likely to say, ‘Prepare dinner; change your clothes and wait table for me until I’ve finished my coffee; then go to the kitchen and have your supper’? Does the servant get special thanks for doing what’s expected of him? It’s the same with you. When you’ve done everything expected of you, be matter-of-fact and say, ‘The work is done. What we were told to do, we did.’”

YOUNG FAMILY FUN WITH BRENDA PIELLE

Dear Friends:

This week the videos are talking about feelings. It is so important for us as adults to encourage our children and youth to express their feelings. Often our young people pick up on things going on in the world around them and can carry worries and concerns without us even knowing it.

The Parent-Tot video has the reading of two books: one about feelings and one about being thankful for various types of weather. The songs this week are: The More We Sing Together; ‎It's A Happy Day; If You're Happy and You Know It; and Thank You God.

The Family Fun video has the reading of a book called "Happy"‎ by Pharrel Williams, the RAP artist. The songs are: Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow; This is the Day that God Has Made; Abilene; Feelin' Groovy; and Don't Worry Be Happy.

Perhaps these books and songs can provide a starting place for more discussions in your home about feelings.

Excerpt from “Lenten Lent: A Way to Refresh & Renew Your Spirit “ by Donna Schaper

“Present your bodies as a living sacrifice…” (sacrifice = holy action)

~ ROMANS 12:1

Daily life is one moment after another, when our actions speak louder than our words. We get to choose what happens to the world’s environment and our own, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. Climate change is an accumulation of actions, not a one-time thing. Likewise, personal climate change comes by the simple choices we make. Day after day of eating trans fats will make us unhealthy. Day after day of not exercising will do the same thing. Day after day without the renewing relaxation of prayer will likewise add up to soul fatigue.

If we want the opposite of soul fatigue, our choices are simple. We sacrifice, daily, the harmful habits on behalf of the healthier ones. We don’t say, “Tomorrow I’ll get to that,” so much as we say, “Here and now, I’ll get to that.”

On Monday, March 27 there is an opportunity to Serve with Love. A work party is needed to make bird seed eggs and put together Easter Bags for the home bound. It will take place in Trinity Hall at 1:00pm. All are welcome to help out.

P O E M ~ L E N T

Give up? Forgo? No!

This penitential season

I’ll make amends

for times-to-laugh unlaughed,

lack-lustre moods,

true pleasures unpursued,

slack-hearted days,

refusals to rejoice –

whatever reason.

I’ll unleash my

lent-lashed spirit,

seize on each second,

beckon forth each soul-spark,

crack wide the wailing-wall within,

win back life, love, laughter, all!

Less would be treason!

P R A Y E R

Mysterious One increase

My zest for living
My vision of glory
My hearing of your call
My grasp on reality
My response to your love
My sensitivity to others
My gentleness to creation
My taste for wonder
My love for you

Send me wherever you will; use me as you will. I surrender myself and all I possess absolutely and entirely, unconditionally and for ever to your control.

Amen
