Message from Light of God Ministry • Reverend Mary White
It has been said that our Creator is nearest us during our most vulnerable times. Being vulnerable means letting go of the ego and breaking down barriers that keep us from being authentic. There is nothing that we can control outside ourselves, but we do have control within. Often the mind will want to manipulate our thoughts which can be destructive to our well-being. We tend to focus on the negative self-images which may bring on anxiety that can be overwhelming leading to a panic attack. It has been my life practice to change my mind focus which comes from searching for the positive in challenging situations. This is not always easy, but practising is helpful and when huge challenges which I can do nothing about arise, for me, handing the situation over to my Higher Power works best.
With Love,
Rev. Mary
All Are Welcome With Love • In-person Worship ~ Sundays at 11am
Dear Friends:
At this time of year our children and youth might be getting excited about Halloween by deciding what to dress up as, and working on putting costumes together. I hope you are enjoying this fun season.
It is nice to follow up the time of giving thanks, with a focus on being kind to others as we appreciate all we have. The books included with the videos this week have creative ways of encouraging us to be kind.
This week the book on the Parent Tot video is called, "I Am Caring". You can also enjoy these songs: This is the Day, How Does the Rooster Talk, The People on the Bus, This is the Way, and God Loves Me.
The Family Fun video has the following songs: This is the Day That God Has Made, Bye Bye Love, Edelweis, My Love Colours Outside the Lines, To Be Alive, as well as the reading of a book called, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?"
Best Regards,
Brenda Pielle

from “The Wisdom Pattern: Order, Chaos, Reorder”
By Richard Rohr
In hostile situations, we find that Jesus either kept silent, reframed the question, or put a question back to the speaker. He knew that we never win when someone has a predisposition toward resentment or a desire to shame us. In such encounters, whatever we say will be turned against us. We have all been in such fruitless and impossible conversations. No one wins. But that is the way the ego likes to work. Opposition gives us a sense of standing for something, a false sense of control and power.
Compassion and humility don’t give us a sense of control or psychic comfort. We have to let go of our moral high ground and hear the ten percent of truth that the other person is perhaps telling.
Compassion and dialogue are essentially vulnerable positions. If we are into control and predictability, we will seldom descend into the weakness of listening or the scariness of dialogue. We will not only be incapable of hearing others but will also be incapable of hearing God. How we do anything is how we do everything. If we spend all day controlling and blocking others, why would we change when we kneel to pray?

Poem ~ Don’t Be Afraid
More Voices #90
Don’t be afraid.
My love is stronger,
my love is stronger
than your fear.
Don’t be afraid.
My love is stronger
and I have promised,
promised to be always near.

PRAYER OF ACCEPTANCE
Excerpt from Joyce Rupp. “The Circle Of Life: The Heart's Journey Through The Seasons”
When I refuse to wait with the mystery of the unknown, when I struggle to keep control rather than to let life evolve, wrap me in the darkening days of autumn and encourage me to wait patiently for clarity and vision as I live with uncertainty and insecurity.
When I neglect to care for myself and become totally absorbed in life’s hurried pace, give me courage to slow down as I see how Earth slows down and allows her soil to rest in silent, fallow space.
When I fight the changes of unwanted, unsought events and struggle to keep things just as they are instead of letting go, place me on the wings of travelling birds flying south, willing to leave their nests of comfort as they journey to another destination.
Maker of the Seasons, thank you for all that autumn teaches me. Change my focus so that I see not only what I am leaving behind, but also the harvest and the plenitude that my life holds. May my heart grow freer and my life more peaceful as I resonate with, and respond to, the many teachings this season offers to me.
