Message from Light of God Ministry • Reverend Mary White
Several years ago, my go to statement for beginning projects was “I’ll do that tomorrow” but it seemed that tomorrow never came. Procrastination!
I soon learned that tasks piled up and I would become overwhelmed with all that needed to be accomplished. “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today” is an excellent proverb to live by. Or there is always the Mark Twain declaration “Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow”.
Proverbs in the Bible can be positive and others negative. It’s impossible in contemporary times to follow some of the biblical Proverbs verbatim. We would be wise to contemplate those that seem to be appealing, and do some research to ensure you make an informed decision about following them.
An example is Proverb 13:24 “Those who spare the rod hate their children, but those who love them are diligent to discipline them.” This seems to imply that hitting children is permissible, but psychologists would disagree. Hitting a child teaches them to be violent. Discipline means to teach.
So, let’s teach Love.
With Love,
Rev. Mary

Dear Friends:
What a beautiful time of year we are in, with no shortage of things to be thankful for when we look out our windows. The variety of colour we can see, the sunshine, and the fall flowers that are still smiling at us are some things I appreciate. Do you have special traditions for the Thanksgiving weekend in your home? Helping our children and youth adopt an "attitude of gratitude" can be so helpful for them on this journey we call life. Naming one thing we are thankful for each day can be a fun way to start.
The Parent Tot video includes a discussion about saying Grace, a poem about the Turkey, and the following songs: The More We Sing Together, Five Little Ducks, The B-I-B-L-E, and Thank You for the Food We Eat.
The Family Fun video has Kum By Ya, Lean on Me, Bye Bye Love, a sung Grace, and Thank You Lord for Your Blessings on Me, as well as the reading of a book called, "If You Give a Moose a Muffin".
Enjoy a wonderful family weekend this Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Brenda Pielle

Reading Proverbs 27:1-9
You Don’t Know Tomorrow
Don’t brashly announce what you’re going to do tomorrow;
you don’t know the first thing about tomorrow.
Don’t call attention to yourself; let others do that for you.
Carrying a log across your shoulders while you’re hefting a boulder with your arms, is nothing compared to the burden of putting up with a deceiver.
We’re blasted by anger and swamped by rage, but who can survive jealousy?
A spoken reprimand is better than approval that’s never expressed.
The wounds from a lover are worth it; kisses from an enemy do you in.
When you’ve stuffed yourself, you refuse dessert; when you’re starved, you could eat a horse.
People who won’t settle down, wandering hither and yon, are like restless birds, flitting to and fro.
Just as lotions and fragrance give sensual delight, a sweet friendship refreshes the soul.
POEM: MOMENT from “West” by Kenneth Steven
When the land is rusting and the wind’s come back
to ruffle the trees
so it’s cold and sore
under the eyes,
and the sun
comes but seldom
and when it does,
the sea is flooded
but above the sky’s
left dark and angry.
Then head against the wind
and walk until you have stopped
thinking of all you’ve left behind,
the tasks that still need doing.
You are blown out,
have gone beyond
all clocks and watches
into a place where only being matters.
No-one has seen the world
through your eyes before
and you stop, breathless, to be given
the moment whooper swans
come down as soft as silk
across the surface of a loch
and just above the hills
the low moon’s like a ball
of cobwebs in the ice-blue skies
and you know, without a doubt,
there could not be anything
so beautiful again.

PRAYER
God of love and loving,
Tonight we pray for all the people who matter to us:
We pray for the beloved people in our lives – those we cherish and those who return our love and affection, those who attract our attention and ignite our desire, those whose love gives us joy and hope for the future.
May we never take such people for granted, nor cling too close and so smother the love we share.
May your love strengthen our tenderness and show us how to care for one another. And we pray for ourselves – that we may recognize in ourselves the gifts you have given to make each of us unique and valuable, and the possibility you offer for us to make a difference for the good in every life we touch.
Amen
