Light of God

Message from Light of God Ministry • Reverend Mary White

SOMETHING TO CONTEMPLATE

No matter how many “right things” I do, darkness will still come unannounced and uninvited because it is an essential part of personal growth and spiritual transformation. Without some darkness, I cannot become fully the person I am meant to be.

No matter how thick the darkness, some unexpected light always shows itself. This reality convinces me I can live through dark experiences and not be completely overcome.

Shaped by the Oneness

Life can be harsh and beautiful by turns. Often, it seems unfair. Why can’t the beautiful openings last longer? Over the years, I’ve learned that this movement from fullness to bareness and back is the inhalation and exhalation of the Universe. The rhythm is what keeps us alive. It keeps us growing. Once we open our heart, the thousand feelings come at us non-stop, the endless waves of a Mysterious Unity. How they wash over us and through us transforms us.

Pain and Glow

We have shed many skins,

always working toward

some uncovered state:

below opinion,

below expectation, even below

the exhilaration of a dream.

All to accept that shedding

is a way of life.

Going out builds up.

Going in takes off.

And we go on.

Despite the pain of taking off,

we want the glow of being to

last a bit longer. And we go on.

Now I see that this is how the

Universe renews itself: by building

up and taking off. There is

no other way. Pain and Glow.

And we go on. Like a crab

inching from its shell. Like

a bird molting its feathers.

Like an enduring self leaving

everyone’s judgments

on the side of the road.

The Light of God illumines all creation and darkness

P R A Y E R

God of the open garden, we have found you and long to hold you fast. But you refuse our clinging need, eluding the love that would bind and possess you, sending us out beyond the bounds of our feeble knowing. Rapt in our joy and desire, we cannot interpret you: you have gone from us again, moving into morning, moving into light.

In your great love, wait for us where you have sent us, go ahead of us, be there to meet us, resurrected, released in your world.
