Behold the Heart

Message from Light of God Ministry • Reverend Mary White

Good Day and Blessings!

The activities and routines we resist have an immensely negative control. It is easy to lose spirit. But there is another risk, that of being affected during the struggle by the very people we are fighting against. The threat of losing our compassion and vision; of beginning to separate the world into good and bad; of allowing the end to validate the means. That’s why we need to equip ourselves with all the positive devices accessible to us, including Love. I don’t believe this is exclusively Christian. It can be Buddhist, Jewish, a general spirituality, or from another tradition. The most essential thing is that we support each other to bring out the potential and positive that exists in spirituality: the hope of an agreeable world, belief in the authority of love, the wisdom that we all belong together as sisters and brothers. Enjoy life even in the midst of people whose behaviours you may dislike!

Dear Friends,

This week we celebrate Valentine's Day which is typically a day for those in love. I also like to think of it as a day for friendship love and I share this blessing with you as written by John O'Donahue:

"May you be blessed with good friends and learn to be a good friend to yourself, journeying to that place in your soul where there is love, warmth, and feeling. May this change you."

The parent tot video has the reading of a poem and a story called Llama, Llama I Love You as well as these songs: I Love My Mom, I Love my Dad; It's About Love; Jesus in the Morning; Jesus Loves Me.

The family fun video has the reading of a story called, "Valentine" as well as these songs: Like a Rock, You've Got a Friend, A Point of Light, My Love Colours Outside the Lines.

Have a wonderful week.

Reading ~ Matthew 5:43-45 (MSG)

You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the supple moves of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does: gives the best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill person does that.

Poem: Love Can Build A Bridge

– The Judds

I'd gladly walk across the desert
with no shoes upon my feet
To share with you the last bite
of bread I had to eat

I would swim out to save you
in your sea of broken dreams
When all your hopes are sinking,
let me show you what love means

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine

Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time?

Don't you think it's time?

I would whisper love so loudly,
every heart could understand
That love and only love
can join the trials of man

I would give my hearts' desire
so that you might see
The first step is to realize
that it all begins with you and me

When we stand together, it's our finest hour
We can do anything (anything)
Anything (anything)
Keep believin' in the power

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time?

Don't you think it's time?

Whoa, love and only love
Between your heart and mine

Don't you think it's time?

P R A Y E R

Grant us, Spirit of Christ, that tender, indestructible love which asks forgiveness for its executioners and gives hope to the thief on the cross. Keep us compassionate when the way is hard, and gentle with those who oppose us.

God of work and rest and pleasure, grant that what we do this week may be for us an offering rather than a burden; and for those we serve, may it be the help they need.
